How do we make our durable razor and brush handles?

We start with beautiful, high-quality wood, and put it through a stabilization process where resin is saturated into the wood to ensure longevity of the wood components.

Wood that isn’t stabilized will deteriorate over time when exposed to water - and shaving products are exposed to water every time you use them! This process is unique to our business and we’re proud of our commitment to ensuring a high quality and lasting product.  We uphold ourselves to a standard of "heirloom quality”, meaning we intend our product to last for more than one generation.

Our stabilization process is one of the most important processes we go through in producing our high quality shaving products. We start by submerging the original piece of wood, or “blank” into a liquid resin or stabilizer. While submerged, we then use a vacuum pump to remove all of the air from the pores in the wood.

As the vacuum is working, the resin begins to “boil” from all of the air coming out. Once it stops bubbling and all of the air is removed from the wood, we release the vacuum and let the wood fill with resin. At this point the wood can sit submerged in resin for up to several weeks, depending on the type. This process dramatically increases the weight of the wood, and it is usually 2-3 times heavier after stabilizing.

Finally, we remove the blank from the resin and bake for several hours to cure the wood. What comes out is a high quality stabilized wood blank that can withstand regular exposure to water, and will last you for generations to come.

We then turn this stabilized wood on a lathe into our unique and one-of-a-kind brush and razor handles, then carefully hand inlay stone or etched metal. Finally, we sand the products into smooth, sleek pieces and apply a finish to make them shine.
